Animal Health Testing

Maximum reproducibility of study data in today's sophisticated biomedical research programs requires using laboratory rats and mice free of pathogenic organisms. Taconic's commitment to an extensive health monitoring system is a key component of our comprehensive quality control program. We appreciate that customer evaluation of Taconic animals is dependent not only on the review of our health reports, but also on an understanding of the husbandry practices as well as testing methodology and frequency.

Taconic employs the International Health Monitoring System (IHMS™) which is defined by a comprehensive list of microbiological agents, test frequencies and test methods and which meets or exceeds Federation of European Laboratory Animal Science Associations (FELASA) guidelines. Taconic is the only laboratory animal provider with globally harmonized health standards.

Read about recent updates to Taconic's animal health program including new excluded agents, removal of SFB from health reports, and retirement of the Excluded Flora health standard.
