Inbred Strains
Inbred strains are genetically identical to a first approximation. They are widely used for general experiments and as the background for genetically engineered strains.
Cryopreserved Strains
Cryopreserved standard strains may be obtained faster and less expensively from another vendor which maintains live breeding.
Outbred Stocks
Generally larger and hardier, outbred stocks are genetically diverse and have more inter-animal variability.
Hybrid Strains
Taconic offers F1 hybrids generated from crosses between two different inbred strains. Inquire for custom hybrid crosses.
Congenic Strains
Congenic strains contain an allele from one strain transferred onto a different strain background. These may be cell surface markers or other types of genes.
Miscellaneous
Cryopreserved standard strains may be obtained faster and less expensively from another vendor which maintains live breeding.
