Agenda

Mice expressing human leukocyte antigen (HLA) molecules can be used for a wide range of studies in the areas of basic immunology, vaccine research, autoimmune disorders, and infectious diseases. Learn more about the development, validation, and uses of these powerful tools. The webinar included background information on the HLA system and the concept of HLA super-types. Strategies for generation of HLA transgenic mice were discussed along with validation data for some existing models. Important experimental details, including the role of background strain and applications of these mice including use in vaccine testing were also highlighted.

More about Dr. Alessandro Sette

Alessandro Sette, PhD, of the La Jolla Institute for Allergy & Immunology, is a world recognized expert in the area of immune response and the HLA system. While at Cytel and Epimmune, he helped develop a number of transgenic HLA mouse models. He continues to use these and other models in his current academic research, which is focused on ways to fight diseases by understanding the immune response, measuring immune activity, and developing disease intervention strategies against a number of new and emerging infectious diseases.
