aSyn SNCA KO Rat

Also known as: Alpha-Synuclein SNCA Knocked-Out

The aSyn SNCA Knockout Rat, available as part of The Michael J. Fox Foundation Parkinson's Disease Catalog, is a valuable model for Parkinson’s Disease (PD) research. Originally generated at SAGE Labs and now available through Taconic as of April 2025, this model uses CRISPR/Cas9 to delete the endogenous SNCA gene and enables targeted study of alpha-synuclein’s role in neurodegeneration.

Why Parkinson’s Disease Models are Essential for Drug Discovery

Parkinson's Disease mouse models are essential tools for advancing neurodegenerative research and accelerating drug discovery. These preclinical models mimic key pathological features of Parkinson’s, including dopaminergic neuron loss and α-synuclein aggregation. By enabling scientists to test therapeutic strategies in a controlled, reproducible environment, Parkinson's mouse models help predict clinical efficacy and reduce translational risks. Taconic Biosciences offers genetically engineered Parkinson’s Disease models that support the development of novel treatments targeting motor function and disease progression. Using validated mouse models in Parkinson’s research is critical for identifying biomarkers, optimizing dosing, and meeting regulatory requirements.
