Animal Aging

Standard cohorts of most Taconic animal models are available to ship from commercial colonies at a maximum age between 10 and 16 weeks of age depending on model, sex, and other factors. If you require older animals, we are happy to meet your needs for custom or standard animals at whatever age you need. Our expert Colony Management Solutions team is ready to work with you to develop an appropriate plan for generating the research animals for your study.

If you are using C57BL/6NTac mice, then we have a ready stock available:

B6 Males:

  • Readily available up to one year of age
  • Possibly available over one year of age—call for inventory
  • Males are reduced-density virgin cagemate, not retired breeders

Retired breeders are available for most live models:
Limited quantities of retired breeders are available for most commercial models. They may provide a quick option to perform a pilot study with aged animals. Retired breeders are typically 6-9 months of age, but may be younger. More information on retired breeder specifications is available here.
