Overview

Nomenclature: C57BL/6NTac-Tyrtm1Arte

  • A new and improved B6 Albino strain based on the C57BL/6NTac substrain.
  • Contains a mutation in the Tyr gene to introduce albinism
  • The Taconic B6 Albino is an ideal host for maintaining substrain specificity of ES cells derived from the C57BL/6NTac substrain
  • May be used as a blastocyst host for B6 ES cells with an agouti mutation
  • Can also be used as a genetic background for models in which a B6 background is needed with an albino coat, for example in imaging applications
  • Available only from Taconic!

B6 Albino Germline

Orders by weight: Taconic cannot accept orders by weight for this model. Please note that shipments may contain animals with a larger weight variation.

Availability

Production at Danish facilities ended on December 31, 2015. This model is produced in the U.S. and available to ship internationally.

Origin

The B6 Albino model was developed by Taconic. The Tyr mutation is a constitutive knock in of a point mutation in which a G nucleotide located at position 369 in exon 1 has been replaced with C nucleotide, resulting in an amino acid substitution at position 103 (Cys>Ser). The F3 site flanked selection marker was removed by via Flp recombinase. This mutation was made in the C57BL/6NTac substrain. The line was intracrossed to homozygosity.

Genetics

Species:Mouse
Strain Type:Inbred
Allele Type:Knock-in
Coat Color:Albino
Genetic Background:C57BL/6

Other Genetic Notes:

Use the Taconic B6 Albino as a blastocyst donor for agouti JM8A3 ES cells.   Use of the Taconic B6 Albino as a blastocyst donor for JM8A3 ES cells permits detection of germline transmission by coat color in 100% of pups. G1 germline pups are heterozygous at one or two coat color loci.

Packing Practices

Taconic standard practice is to recombine animals of different home cages and/or ages from a single model and sex during packing, except in specific cases where Taconic's animal welfare policy prohibits recombination due to aggression or other concerns.  When an order is fulfilled with animals from more than one week of birth, this standard practice results in animals from a range of birth weeks packed together in a single TTC. When an order is fulfilled with animals from genotyped models, this standard practice results in animals from different home cages packed together in a single TTC.

Customers who wish to keep animals from different weeks of birth separated should place orders with the special instruction "Divide and label by age."  Note that this special request can result in increased costs for additional Taconic Transit Cages, dividers and/or freight charges.

Taconic discourages other types of custom packing requests as they can have a negative impact on animal welfare. Learn more.
