This commitment starts with new employees as they join us. All employees start their career with Taconic by participating in a comprehensive onboarding program. Employees learn what different areas do, how they fit within the organization, and who to contact when they have questions. For employees in entry-level roles, hands-on training is provided by dedicated operations trainers.

Employees who start as Animal Care Technicians have the opportunity to move into Team Leader or Supervisor roles, and can also transfer to other departments within animal production to our laboratories, or into customer service. Animals are my passion and I have worked with multiple species throughout my life and I enjoy being an integral part of the daily care of the animals here at Taconic. My day can be very different day to day or minute to minute and that is what I enjoy about it. I typically start by checking emails to get a grasp on the day. The animal care technicians alert me to any new health concerns and message me when they have animals I have listed for daily rechecks. Animal welfare is priority and I am called to conduct clinical observations on the animals or anything at all that may impact animal health.

I am based in Rensselaer, however I have been fortunate to spend time in Germantown as well as travel to meet the dedicated staff in Cambridge City, IN to get a better feel for their daily activities and continue to meet remotely and be as reachable as possible between visits while at a distance. I conduct necropsies on animals to assist in maintaining high levels of welfare and care. As a veterinary nurse there are many aspects involved: health testing, equipment validation, customer inquiries and training presentations.

I am fortunate to work with amazing people that make up the Taconic family. The teams here are supportive and communication is key to supporting animal health. The interview process is generally consistent across Taconic, but some departments differ slightly. There are generally one or two rounds of interviews. For the most part, as a first round candidate, you will interview with a Recruiter and may also interview with the Hiring Manager. Second round interviews generally provide you with an opportunity to meet with extended members of the team and possibly more senior staff members. The interviews are truly a dialogue where you can ask questions and learn as much about the group and Taconic as we learn about you.
